Terms of use
Last updated: 26 September 2026
Socioloza is a public transit app by Moving Gauteng. These terms apply when you use the app. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Socioloza.
Who can use Socioloza
You must be at least 13 years old to use Socioloza. If you are under 18, make sure a parent or guardian is happy for you to use it.
Your account
You can browse transit information without an account. To check in, report, or chat you need to sign in. Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings, or on our delete account page.
Community rules
Socioloza works because riders help each other. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. You must not post, send or share anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone;
- is hateful or discriminatory, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability;
- is sexually explicit, violent or graphic;
- shares someone else's personal information, such as their phone number, address or photos, without their permission;
- is deliberately false, including fake delays, fake incidents or fake check-ins;
- is spam, a scam, or advertising we have not approved;
- encourages anything illegal or unsafe.
Reporting and blocking
You can report a message, or block the rider who sent it, from the message menu. You can also email hello (at) socioloza (dot) co (dot) za. We review reports and act on content that breaks these rules within 24 hours. We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or delete accounts that break these rules, without notice.
Transit information
Timetables come from transit operators, and real-time updates come from other riders. Neither is guaranteed. Crowdsourced delays, arrivals and crowding are estimates and can be wrong or late. Use them as a guide, and follow official announcements and station staff. Stay aware of your surroundings and never use your phone in a way that puts you or others at risk, for example near a platform edge or while driving.
Fare accounts
If you link a fare account such as O-City, the fare provider runs that account under its own terms. Socioloza shows your fare card and QR code on your device but does not sell tickets or handle payments. Fares, balances and validation are the fare provider's responsibility.
What you share
You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission to show it in the app to other riders and to use it, in anonymous and aggregated form, to produce transit information. How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy.
The app itself
Socioloza is free. We may change, pause or stop features, and we will try to give notice of significant changes. Do not try to disrupt the app, access other people's accounts, or collect data from it automatically.
Liability
We provide Socioloza as it is. To the extent the law allows, Moving Gauteng is not liable for missed trips, delays, or losses caused by relying on information in the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other South African law that cannot be excluded.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, let you know in the app. Continuing to use Socioloza after a change means you accept the new terms.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. For questions about them, email hello (at) socioloza (dot) co (dot) za.
